Winter time is definitely cookies time and I am always getting boxes full with Christmas cookies from my mom. She makes a lot of different varies and I love to eat them. I also bake some when it is about time but mostly only one or two different sorts. This year I wanted to do some with fondant inspired by the blogger cookies workshop I attended with Mein Keksdesign.
So I still had the round cutters and the special rolling pin for fondant. Other than that I baked some short pastry and bought fondant in different colors. On top you need a straw, different cookie cutters and a small paintbrush.
Short pastry recipe:
- 1 egg
- 2 egg yellows
- 600g flower
- 400g butter in room temperatur
- 200g sugar
- 1 vanilla bean
- citric aroma
Mix all the ingredients together to a smooth dough and use the cookie cutters to get the different shapes. Use the straw to add an additional hole before putting them in order to put a ribbon through. I baked the short pastries in the oven for about 10 minutes at 180 degrees and afterwards let them cool down. Once that is done, roll the different fondants out so that they are about 3mm thin, the special rolling pin helps to get it the same thickness everywhere. Put a slight bit of water at the back of the round fondant bits and glue them on the cookies.
Put a matching ribbon through the hole and use the cookies as a gift tag or Christmas tree hanger. Furthermore it is up to you which motives you want to do, there are endless possibilities.
