Christmas, end of the year and some other thoughts

Wow, another year has already passed again. Tomorrow is Christmas and this is the time of the year where I do get emotional and think about all the things that happened. And it definitely was a lot: Our blog went online, my husband changed job, my brother in law got engaged, my baby turned into a toddler and started going to the creche while I went back to work part-time. It was a wonderful year and I enjoyed every single day and I am really looking forward to what will happen in 2017.

I am so much looking forward to Christmas and seeing all the family. This year we have been with my parents 1 week before Christmas and for Christmas itself we will drive to my husband´s family to Belgium. They just moved and it will be one of the rare times we might spend Christmas in Belgium as they usually go to Portugal during the years. All in all I do not really care where we spend the days but one thing is really important for me – creating a family tradition for my little daughter.

We children always went to church to see the children´s mass with my mom while my dad was finishing the Christmas tree. Afterwards we had dinner together and we had to leave the living room for 5-10 minutes. When we heard the Christmas bell ringing we were allowed to enter again and voila: Father Christmas was there and the presents were lying underneath the tree. We loved this tradition and the atmosphere that came with it.

christmas-thoughts-2016My parents in law didn´t have a Christmas tree in a long time as they traveled every year to Portugal. My husband and my brother in law liked the idea of going back to having a tree and really celebrate Christmas together with the family and I was really happy that they saw it the same way as I did. So last year they started having one already and we will continue this year. I am also looking forward to having Christmas more and more at our place so that C in 20 years time will think back and have great memories of our cozy family moments. But for now we will swap between my parents, parents in law and our home. I am pretty sure the next years it will all come by itself and we will figure out our own tradition.

How are your Christmas plans and how are you dealing with seeing the grandparents? We are going on a small holiday break and are back in 2017 with a lot of new events, posts and much more for you…
